“One Vespa, a million brothers,” says Nando Anjasmara Azani. The Vespa enthusiast is part of Rebel Riders, a community in Indonesia dedicated to modifying the Italian scooters. In a recent video by Great Big Story, Azani and his compatriots share a glimpse into their pastime that includes altering the body with extra wheels and adorning the exterior with tree branches, animal skulls, and other finds. Every year, the group meets up to tinker with each others’ rides in multiple celebrations that occur on each island in Indonesia.

“Type Legacy” is the latest project of Benoit Berger, my partner in crime since 2011. The homonym page features his personal collection of type related objects he has been gathering over the years.

Although presented like an online catalog you can scroll through, none of the items are for sale. Benoit has been carefully browsing and purchasing these collectibles via vintage stores, flee markets and eBay sellers. He then scans and archives them, creating a unique assortment cherished by fellow typography lovers.

Filippos Fragkogiannis is an Athens based graphic and communication designer whose focus lies on typography, print design and visual identity.

His research and practice revolve around the semantics, symbolism and structure of visual language.

Studio Jimbo is a creative and aesthetic design studio based in Paris, France. It was founded in 2014 and is directed by Jimbo Barbu.

The studio focuses on projects in the fields of editorial design, branding, illustration and visual identity for music, fashion and business.

Sushi Daily is Europe’s leading sushi kiosk business with over 700 counters in supermarkets including Waitrose and Carrefour. However, until this month it has never had a restaurant presence on the high street.

Without Studio were tasked with showing consumers that, in a competitive market, Sushi Daily are in a league of their own when it comes to quality, accessibility and ease. Commissioned to develop the brand for its first dedicated ‘grab & go’ restaurant, Without continued to push further and tell the story of Kelly Choi and how she and her team brought handmade sushi to the world.

Without Studio created all elements of the Sushi Daily identity, including store signage, packaging, uniforms and website. The clean and thoughtful brand identity has a cheeky element with illustrated characters. The contemporary illustrations enable the brand to showcase their skill in a playful way.

The new brand emphasises their strong craft in fresh fish and their friendly atmosphere in a playful and aesthetically-pleasing way. A brilliant wholesome restaurant which we can’t wait to visit.

We are always in awe of the exceptional work coming from agency A Friend of Mine. Creative Director Suzy launched the agency in 2009, with 15+ years of design experience. Their work continues to impress us and this piece is no different.

Rollers, based in Sydney, is a new pastry bakehouse experimenting with simple pastry formats to create new and exciting flavours. A Friend of Mine created a relaxed, clear and quirky brand identity featuring custom typography. 

The strong, cursive typography leads this interesting brand identity. The typography style reminds us of a 50s American diner, which wouldn’t look out of place as a neon light. This familiar aesthetic is at once reminiscent of and at odds with their approach to food. Their pastries are intended to be new and refreshingly innovative within the confines of a traditional and familiar product.

According to A Friend of Mine, the signage was an integral part of the placemaking in a location so hidden away from main foot traffic. The logo adorns the wall outside the bakery. Made from wrought iron is designed to cast a different shadow throughout the day.

This trendy bakery is obviously branded angled toward the stylish Australian crowd, with their generous use of ‘millennial pink’ and stylish interiors made for Instagram. This simple but stylish approach is familiar in the realms of brunch and patisserie dining, with peers such as Hoeked Doughnuts and Tartine Bakery, and we love to see the continued use of satisfying simplicity in beautifying the places in which we meet, brunch and make merry!
