Club Goods, a product brand for Hamburg’s music clubs by Eiga Design.

German design agency Eiga just completed the brand identity for Club Goods, a product brand for Hamburg’s music clubs. “Together with the Clubkombinat Hamburg eV, EIGA developed the concept for a solitary brand for all music club owners. The goal is to give Hamburg music clubs the opportunity to develop products on their own. To market an own brand collectively. Then came Covid-19, and the concept had to turn into a large-scale rescue campaign overnight.” Please read more below the following image.

Club Goods is based on the idea to enable club owners in Hamburg to add new products to the series over and over again. The first product is called “Good Peppa”, a trendy peppermint spirit. Ideas for sparkling wine, mate, and other club-savvy products are already in the making. Each new product comes with a unique key visual. The bold elements of the modular design principle are inspired by the light and sound atmosphere in the clubs.

The three neon pink seesaws that slotted through the U.S.-Mexico border were just named the 2020 Beazley Design of the Year. Conceived by Oakland-based artists Ronald Rael and Virginia San Fratello (previously), the playful, subversive project was installed in July 2019 between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez and physically connected the two communities despite the 20-foot barrier. The prestigious, annual award comes from London’s Design Museum.

Rael and San Fratello spent a decade working on “Teeter-Totter Wall” before its installation at the border during a particularly divisive time under the Trump administration. Although it was in use for less than an hour, the interactive work intended to foster and display unity between children and adults from both countries as they physically lifted each other up. In response to the administration separating families at the border, Rael wrote about the project:

The teeter-totters represented the kind of balance necessary for any two people, two nations, to achieve equality, with the understanding that the actions on one side have direct consequences on the other. The teeter-totter is the physical manifestation of the Golden Rule—treat others as you would like others to treat you—a maxim that is shared by all cultures and religions. To experience joy on a teeter-totter, you must allow the other person to experience joy as well.

Among the other winners are a 3D rendering of SARS-CoV-2 by Alissa Eckert and Dan Higgins for the CDC and Social Design Collaborative’s “ModSkool,” a moveable building that can be easily assembled and taken down in response to evictions of farming communities in India. Graphic design studio Little Green (小 绿) has created a stunning supermarket rebranding for Yan Cheng Mart (炎成优品).

Beijing, China-based studio Little Green (小 绿) was responsible to work on a redesign of the existing brand identity of Yan Cheng Mart (炎成优品). They choose the Chinese character “yan” as the base, imitating a burning flame and the divergence of light to complete the logo. In the application of auxiliary graphics, they mainly used two-dimensional lines and color blocks to create a three-dimensional effect in a regular manner to visualize common groceries such as buns, noodles, rice, etc. This way, they came up with a visual experience based on simplicity. Due to the consideration of functionality and different consumption scenarios, tones of warm orange, blue, and yellow have been used to cope with product promotions, and to convey a festive atmosphere.
